I live in the UK, just read that they are still finding body parts at ground zero, which must be just awful for the families, but why on earth are they still finding them? Did they not search the area fully originally? did they just quit searching at some point, I thought the whole area had been cleared and was just awaiting redevelopment.

Whats been going on? Its been 5 years, why the delay? the article I read didnt give much info, I'm shocked that body parts are still being found 5 years later.

There are too many agencies working there- the NYPD, the Port Authority, Mayor's office, Dep of Sanitation, and then there's national agencies. Sounds like they are not working together.

The state also wanted to look like they were back on their feet as soon as possible- presenting a strong image to the world. That made them rush through some things and miss bodies.

Also the scene was so chaotic it would be impossible to find all the body parts. Most likely they will find them for generations.

Why the thumbs down? You don't like the truth?

Apparently where they are looking now has been previously covered while the search was going on. I think they may keep finding bones for a fair while. I don't think they will ever get them all. Even buildings near the site are still having bones found on their roof tops etc. It's very weird - just shows how powerful it was.

I think that it is good for some families. Some people cannot find closure until they have something of that person. If it is even just a fragment of bone that could be enough to help them get over it. It would be unreal for those people. I guess they must realise that their souls are gone but just something to have would be nice.

The towers were forced to implode, as the clearing work continues, the workers are digging down to areas that had not been reached before. The towers sank rapidly into the sub levels, bodies, probably not unless they were in a protective pocket of debris and became mummified. Can't really say as I don't really keep up on the daily progress. New York is along way from Arkansas, I just live comforted by the fact that rebuilding is going on.

The remains were found in a manhole shaft...that had been paved over to enable various vehicles to get to the disaster site.

One thing I don't understand is why people feel it is so important...once a person is dead, there's no-one left inside the body...let it go. When I die they can throw my body out with the trash for all I'd care.

We're not talking entire arms and legs or torsos here, but very small bits of bone for example. No way to ever get all of that out, much less identified.

It is inevitable that after a great disaster and so many unidentified bodies that bones would still be around.
