I'm a student film director, and I soon will begin editing a film I had to make for an assignment....trouble is, I can't think of a sad break-up song to play at the end.

Basically, the main character's girlfriend leaves him because she doesn't like the way he's acting...he's partying, smoking, drinking, etc....so at the end of the film, I want a song to be playing when she sees him and walks away....so far, all I have is "Emotion" by Destiny's Child, but I want more options.

Depends on the mood you want to create, but here are some worth checking out:
Hurt by Johnny Cash
Paloma Negra by Lila Downs (it's in Spanish so this probably won't work, but it's beautiful nonetheless)
Nothing Compares 2 U by Sinead O'Connor
Desperado by The Eagles
Every Rose Has It's Thorn by Poison
I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston
It's Been Awhile by Staind

I don't know why you would want to listen to a sad song if you're sad. It should be happy but... you can listen to the last song by the all american rejects.

i think that the song 'I'd Settle for a Slowdown" is a good on it's a country song but it has a really sad tune to it so it would be perfect. It's sung by Dierks Bentley

Ok, this may not be the perfect song for that scene, but listen to the song "If you were here tonight" by Alexander O'neil. It is amazing and surely you can use it one day for something....

Let me know what you think of it. OK? (I'm going to listen to it right now....I'll let you know if I think of anything else).
