I have a Linksys Wireless-G 2.4ghz router WRT54G v.6.
Ever since I got it 1 1/2 weeks ago my parents complain the internet is slow and threaten to take it off. :-( I need this router though for my gaming systems. :-( We have 2.4 ghz phones could this be an issue (I know it could for using my DS Lite for Wifi.) Any ideas would be appreciated. :-) (I know someone is not stealing my wifi since my security site states no annoymus internet users is checked.) :-)

Your 2.4 GHz phones have nothing to do with it.

The router most likely isn't the cause either.

You probably have spyware and other junk on your PC that's slowing it down and jacking your bandwidth.

A wifi router can slow your connection down due to a few potential reasons.

1. Your neighbor may be using the same wifi channel. Try changing your channels; its in the router config page.

2. 128bit wep can slow you down as well. If your clients can handle it, try to use WPA its more secure anyway. Wep can be hacked in a matter of minutes.

3. That router sometimes has DNS routing issues. Go into the router config page, find the external DNS servers. They will be in the WAN section. Then statically enter them into your parents TCP/IP settings. This usually speeds it up quite a bit.

4. Make sure the router is updated to the latest firmware.

Your phone lines' capacity may be causing the problem. Before I had more than one computer, my first computer ran pretty fast, but when I added another phone line, the phone company said their lines could only handle so much traffic and the more they are being used, the slower they are going to be. Good luck!
