Exxon Mobil Profit Soars 75%
Friday, October 28, 2005; Page D01
High prices for crude oil, gasoline and natural gas helped Exxon Mobil Corp. to its highest-ever quarterly profit, $9.92 billion, up 75 percent from the third quarter last year, the company said yesterday.
Profit in the third quarter at the world's largest publicly traded oil company set an industry record, and its sales of $100.72 billion were the highest in a quarter by U.S. company, according to Standard & Poor's.
Exxon Mobil's third-quarter profit, $9.92 billion, was the highest the oil company had ever recorded. (By Matt Slocum -- Associated Press)
Oil Industry Seeks to Cast Huge Profits as No Big Deal
By most familiar comparisons, the $9.92 billion profit earned by Exxon Mobil Corp. in just three months is almost unimaginable. It would cover all Social Security benefit payments for three months. It would pay for an Ivy League education for about 60,000 kids. It would pay the average list price...
Oil Doesn't Want Focus on Big Profit
Gigantic oil companies generally do not enjoy the best PR.
Other oil companies have reported soaring third-quarter profits this week. Royal Dutch Shell PLC, based in the Hague, said yesterday that its third-quarter profit was not far behind Exxon Mobil's: $9.03 billion, up 68 percent. London-based BP PLC reported profit of $6.53 billion, up 34 percent.
The industry benefited from tight supply and heavy demand that sent crude oil prices higher on world markets. Hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico helped push futures prices for crude oil close to $70 a barrel and sent retail gasoline prices above $3 a gallon during the quarter. Natural gas prices rose to record highs

Yes, and notice that now, for some reason; the oil companies are lowering their prices and accepting somewhat less profit; although I am sure their current profits are still exorbitant. I don't understand some of the people answering this question who say that liberals, ie you, are anti profit. These companies are making record profits at the expense of the economy and the people of the US. I don't mind profit, we are a capatilist country, but people should be content with reasonable profits, and show some concern for the people of this nation who buy their gas. But back to the original point, what a coincidence that gas prices are falling now, just when the party that allows them to rape the American people for record profits is having problems with popularity and are concerned they may lose control of the govt. Strange huh???

Doesn't it feel good if you're a liberal and know that the government--oops, didn't mean to be disrespectful with the lower case, Government--made 30 to 40 cents more on each gallon of gas than the oil companies. What a deal, Government doesn't have to research, speculate, drill, transport, refine, or distribute it, or navigate the impossible bureaucratic nightmare to produce anything; they just have to have their hands out.
We need to have more respect for profit. There's a reason businesses go overseas. Who can blame them with a bunch of leeches in congress after them.

Why are you libs so against profit! If moveon.org announced record profits and earnings you wouldn't have a problem. You don't have a problem with the profits made by George Soros, Rob Reiner, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet or any number of hollywood snobs. HYPOCRITE!
