I would rather have Mike Tyson calling me anything he liked than have him hit me.

Well....I don't know about the b*lls thing due to the fact that I'm female (ha ha ha). But I think that words seem to hurt more deeply than a punch in the face. The reason why I say this is: Let's say you and I were best friends forever! We get into an altercation, you say some really mean things and you hit me right in the kisser. Well, yeah the punch itself will hurt...maybe even for a couple of days. But the fact that someone whom I respected for so long would say hurtful things (whether it be true or not) would linger more (and longer) than the punch.
Does that make sense?

Depends on where you're punched: A punch on the jaw is bearable. A punch straight on the nose will ruin your week.
A proper kick in the balls will make you wish you were dead (and it makes you really nauseous, for some reason).

The effect of words depends on who is involved. If you don't particularly value the person's opinion, it will just bounce off. My advice is as soon as someone has crossed the line and said something cruel to you, cut them out of your life completely. There are too many kind people in the world to have to endure the insecurities of a few nasty ones.

Words hurt worst of all.

A slap in the face, kicks in the groin, any 'physical' pain will eventually subside. Even any bruising will disappear.

But words, especially those said in anger, hurt more because they "cut to the quick"...the soul, the heart of an individual...

Proverbs 6: 16 - 18 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,...

Proverbs 18:21 - Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Matthew 15:18 - But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

Now you see why your parents would say: "Watch your mouth!"

At the moment, words can hurt as much, if not more, than a punch in the face. People don't realise how powerful the words they use are. They don't have to be nasty words, just the context they use them in and they don't realise how hurtful they are being.

I guess it depends who's doing the punching or kicking. On the other hand I can remember cruel words years after they were said, whereas I tend to forget how pain feels unless I'm in it.

i'm no guy but kick in the balls hurt like much. as for girls, words hurt more. a punch in the face damages your physical body but heals in a few days; words are engraven into your heart and stay with you much of your life.

Considering that you're a girl then I accept that reason why you're asking the question. William Shakespeare didn't have the vocabularly that could describe the pain of being kicked in the balls! (punched in face doesn't score on pain levels)

I think probably words, because punch hurts for a couple of minutes, and words can hurt much longer.

As a girl I'd say words hurt me more... a punch in the face lasts a few hrs... words burn a hole in ur heart.... For guys I'd say a kick in the balls... i remember "accidently" kicking a guy in the balls.... and he was on the floor for hrs....

It seems to me that the nature of the pain of verbal nastiness and physical abuse is of different origin. Whereas a spiteful, malicious, thoughtless comment can cause neurosis for years and be incredibly emotionally painful, the effects of physical abuse (such as bruises or scars etc) is not only physical. The lasting damage from phsical abuse is humiliation, which can also affect a person well after the bruises have faded. Having suffered both verbal and physical abuse I can say that, from my point of view, they both hurt equally as much and are both usually perpetrated by people who are idiots or cowards.
