There are a couple of places you can try - Hokkaido on Bellaire Blvd. and Oishi on Richmond Ave. In my experience, these two places were relatively cheap but the sushi was good. Do a search on them for the exact address. Good luck!

Houston is huge and there are good sushi places in most parts of town. Since you said cheap, Mayako's is out although it is very good and open late. Krogers makes it fresh daily and is good and fresh with a variety to choose from. My favorite Asian retaurant is on the edge of China Town and is called Fung's Kitchen, a favorite with the Chinese. Stay away from the Korean places and the Vietnamese places.

In the East End is "The Great Wall" with a huge buffet. For the best in regular Chinese food, I would definitely say Pei Wei's.

Have fun. Houston is full of Asian restaurants. You need to go down Bellaire if you want a huge variety and experience a growing and diverse group of Asian shops.

But, go to Fung's Kitchen for Saturday or Sunday dim sum..it is the best and most authentic.

Tokyohana at 45 North and Richey Rd. have a great happy hour from 3-7p. Very nice and trendy place. I think the sushi during that time is about 3 bucks an order. They have another location off of 59 South/Buffalo Speedway but I've never been to that one.

There is a great restaurant called Ginza's on San Felipe (Galleria/Tanglewood area). It's very quaint and cozy. The waitstaff and chefs all dress in traditional Japanese clothing and are extremely friendly and helpfull when ordering. The quality of the fish is top-notch. The service is excellent and the price is very reasonable. It's in the same little strip center as Southwell's Hamburgers. It must be a favorite with the Astros too because I always end up seeing 1 or more of The Killer B's there when I go in. Oh! They have a very heavy handed bartender as an added bonus!

There is a Kroger off of Westpark and Buffalo Speedway that makes fresh sushi everyday and it's really good and inexpensive. The Tokyohana Grill is in the shopping center right before you get to the Kroger, and it's also really good and reasonably priced.
