a message sent by another yahoo user contains a copied image and test, but it is xed out th emessage I received

You don't stay what email service that you use. If you use yahoo mail or hotmail, they will block out what is known as "HTML", in emails allow certian types of pictures in the email for security purposes.
Sometimes you will see a yellow bar above the email when open saying, "the sender of this email could not be verified". And if they sent a picture it will be blocked out for your own security.
Advertising or personal pictures have been known to have embedded trojans or malware in them.

outlook express usually has this thingthat says "some picturees have been remove to prevent the user from identifing your computer.
