ok i have no i diea how to do this, but i need to find how much each scale ='s so the first scale weighs 24 and there are 2 spheres, 2 cubes, and 2 cylanders. The second scale weighs 21 and theres 1 cylinder, 1 cube, 1 sphere, and 1 tall prism. The third scale is 28, there are 2 cylinders, and 2 tall prisms. On the last scale it is 23, it has 1 tall prism, 1 cylinder, and 3 cubes.....i need to figure out each shape in algebraic form i just dont kno how sooo thank you in advance

Let A = sphere, B = cube, C = cylinder, D = prism

Since 2A + 2B +2C = 24, divide by 2 to get A+B+C = 12

Now your second scale has A+B+C+D = 21. Since you know from the first scale that A+B+C = 12, you can subtract this from your second scale's equation to get D=9.

The third scale is 2C + 2D = 28. Since you know D=9, you can solve for C (2C=10, so C=5).

The last scale is D + C +3B = 23. You know D and C already (9 and 5), so 3B = 9, so B = 3

Finally, let's figure out A. From the second scale, we know A+B+C+D = 21. And we know D=9, C=5, B=3 ... so that means A=4

HTH! :-)

24=2 spheres, 2 cubes & 2 cylinders therefore
1 sphere, 1 cube and 1 cylinder would equal 12

21=1 cylinder, 1 cube & one sphere(12) and 1 tall prism so if you take 21 minus 12 that means a tall prism equals 9

28=2 tall prisms (2 times 9 = 18), and 2 cylinders so then you take 28 minus the 18 would leave 10 for the 2 cylinders so one cylinder would be 5

23= 1 tall prism (9) , 1 cylinder,(5) and 3 cubes. so 23 minus 9 for the prism and minus 5 for the cylinder leaves 9 for the three cubes. so then you know one cube would be 3.

Now you put it into algebraic format.

The first step is to give each seperate object an algebraic symbol, eg a,b,c,d. Then rewrite each equation in this new form;

Sphere = a
cube = b
cylinder = c
tall prism = d, so;

2a+2b+2c=24
1a+1b+1c+1d=21
2c+2d=28
1d+1c+3b=23

The first and third equations can be simplified by dividing each bit by 2, so 1a+1b+1c=12 & 1c+1d=14.

From the second equation and the first simplified one, we can find the value of d;
1a+1b+1c=12 & 1a+1b+1c+1d=21, then 1d=9
Also 1c+1d=14, and d=9 so c must = 5.

As 1d+1c+3b=23, and d+c=14, then 3b=9, so b=3.

As a+b+c=12, and b=3 and c=5, a= 12-3-5=4

Hence, sphere=4, cube=3, cylinder=5, and tall prism=9

Set up simultaneous equations for each scale and solve for the variables
24=2sphere+2cube+2cylinder
21=1sphere+1cube+1cylinder+1prism
28=2cylinder+2prism
23=1cylinder+3cube

multiply the second by 2
42=2sphere+2cube+2cylinder+2prism
subtract the first
-24=-2sphere-2cube-2cylinder
42-24=2prism
9=prism
plug this into the third:
28=2cylinder+18
5=cylinder
plug this into the last
23=5+3cube
6=cube

use the first to compute the sphere
24=2sphere+2cube+2cylinder
24=2sphere+12+10
1=sphere
check using the second
21=1sphere+1cube+1cylinder+1prism
21=1+6+5+9
21=21
