This is really a question your OB/GYN doctor and most of the other answers make sense.
However look/think of the practical factors. You are what you eat. The fetus/baby feeds off of your body. What you eat transfers to the baby.
It would make sense that the bigger you are the more chance that the baby would be larger also. The fat cells accumulate and become enlarged. The same happens to the baby. Look at most any mother who is fat and the chances are that the offspring will be prone to overweight at least by the mother's age.
Why do you think they monitor the mother's weight to ensure their weight gain is with in acceptable limits? Lastly why should there be any question of creating/developing a healthy baby? That is the least you owe he/she. So just do the right thing!

No, but if you are eating a lot of empty calories and foods with no nutritional value your baby will take what ever he or she needs from you to survive. Have you ever noticed that some pregnant women start losing their hair or their teeth may start going bad, that's because they don't properly and the baby is depriving them of all their nutrients. My advice to you is to eat healthy, from all the food groups and make sure you are drinking plenty of water.

Yes you will gain quite abit of weight if you decide to eat unhealthy. I had a 9lb 5oz little boy and I ate junk food all the time. I gained 80 pounds and I regret it now. I ate healthy with my second and she only weighed 7lbs 4oz and I only gained 17 pounds with her! So it's your choice what you wanna do for yourself and your baby!

No. Your baby may even be smaller. Excess weight in pregnancy causes all sorts of problems, and people with excess fat often have difficult deliveries, which is further risk to their babies. Nutrition is what is best for mother and baby.

Hard to say. My mother ate healthy with me and I was 6 pounds 9 ounces, ate healthy with her next, my brother, he was 6 pounds 4 ounces, ate everything in sight and junk every night with her last and he was 9 pounds 11 3/4 ounces. I'm pregnant now and she decided to share not to eat "snowballs" every night... lol

You run the possibility of getting gestational diabetes which will make your baby larger...plus you will gain more weight and it's hard enough to lose pregnancy weight as it is.
