I'm looking for a good book to read.
Something similar to "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini, if you've read it.
Or anything interesting thats about people or places or events?
-Thanks!

I'm reading "The Fatal Shore" which is a factual book all about the first transportees to Australia which is quite interesting.
If you're interested in world politics, I can highly recommend Joe Sacco's graphic novel "Palestine."
For some light history, "The Year 1000" and "Longitude" are very accessible.
Jean Sasson's "Princess" is an interesting if sensational read and I there are a couple of sequels called "Desert Royal" and "Daughters of Arabia," which I will get round to reading one day. They're about a female member of the Saudi royal family.

Have you read The Bookseller of Kabul?
It's supposed to complement The Kite Runner quite nicely.

If you really want to read good literature, then I would suggest

*Halldor Laxness - Iceland's Bell
*Klaus Mann - Mephisto
*Salman Rushdie - The Satanic Verses

Thats my top 3 of good books, which have some background, something to think about and an interesting story with developing characters. Just check them out on http://amazon.de or so.
Hope you like them.

Running with scissors by Augustyne Burrows--about an offbeat familyand a boy sent to live with her un-conventional psychiatrist and his family --the doctor resembles santa claus and the tree stays up all yr. It is apparently a true story. I haven't read it yet but it came highly recommended

Dan Brown's stories are good, although to me, he isn't the greatest writer in the world. I've read all his books though (The Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons, Digital Fortress etc) I really couldn't put them down.
1984 by George Orwell is a fantasitc book, one of my favourites.
Toni Morrison is another of my favourite authors, her books are powerful and moving.
