I think you are going to get alot of answers like power and greed and although that maybe true I think there are some other reasons. I think there are people are there who were born to be leaders. It is a part of who they are. They are gifted to take leadership and deal with all the stresses that come with a job like that. They are people with charisma and prestige. People who are responsible and are naturals at leading.

They like the attention and power and they think they can change things. It isn't always evil. :) Most politicians probably have decent intentions.
