I recently went to the doctor for what was diagnosed as kidney stones. I usually never go to the doctor unless I have to. Since I am a 57 year old male with no baseline lab work my doc ordered lab work to be done. All my labs were normal but the CBC. I have alot of high and low values, and are trying to understand what they mean or what kind of problems they signal.

Segmenters High
Lymphocytes Low
M.C.H. Concenteration High
RBC Districution W. High
Mean Platelet Volume Low
Differential results
Neutrophils (M-Segmenters) High
M-Lymphocytes Low

I would appreciate your help.

Its all relative to the actual numbers, not just the high or low designations. Rbc, hemoglobin, hematocrit, mean corpuscular hemoglobin and mean corpuscular volume are all red blood cell indicators low with anemia high with smoking or dehydration. The distribution width increase means there are more than expected young red blood cells floating around, again very dependant on the exact number what this means.

Segmentals, Neutrophils, Polys all fight bacterial infection. Lymphocytes fight viral infection. When these are up it can mean you're fighting something off.

Lab values are compared to averages nationwide. Varying from 'the average' doesn't necessarily mean you are sick. You have to put everything into context. Honestly, everybody registers some 'abnormal' lab results from time to time for the reasons I just gave. If the doc didnt say anything dont sweat it.

This is a definite medical question that should be more properly answered by your doctor. How come he/she didn't explain things fully? How come you didn't press him/her for some answers? It's the doctor's job to explain everything to his/her; and it is the patient's job to make sure he/she gets such an explanation. Never let a doctor off the hook if you have questions.
