there is a lot more to contributing to society than just holding down a paid job. believe it or not, most of the actual work done by people is unpaid work. caring for the ill, incapacitated and young and even supporting the workers are tasks really vital to keeping society functioning. It suprises me that people who gripe about the payment of social support are often oblivious to such things as government kickbacks for political support, massive amounts spent on munitions (even illegal munitions 'running') or even government funded drug rehab programs. Where is the humanity?

she is actually drawinf from her spouses ss.

I have yet to meet a woman who hasn't worked her entire life.
She may have never worked outside the home but she does more than her share of work at home. that makes it fair that she should be able to draw from her husband. she should be able to draw from her kids ss too.

For the same reason all the other people who don't ever work draw SS---President Roosevelt decided to ruin a perfectly good country with social programs.

Social Security was turned into a Welfare Program. It wasn't intended to be. (In fact, FDR set it up to screw the working people. It was set up so the average person would die six years before he could draw it.)
Medicare is a Welfare Program.
Medicaid is a Welfare Program.
(I'm not saying it's wrong. But it has hurt the mentality of all Americans. We all now have our hands out wanting more from the taxpayers. We want more handouts.)

Because her support of a working husband, and presumed bearing and raising of children, is also considered valuable to the economy.

I don't think you get any unless you worked. However I have heard some women being able to collect their husband's if he dies.

Because she did work at home as a housewife and most likely raised children, which is usually a thankless job as well as no salary provided.

While working, even if not her entire life, she still paid in, so she gets some, but not as much as someone who worked his (or her) whole life.
