Hi Rebecca
They want to nanny us out of our freedom of choice, yet the houses of parliament being a royal palace; is exempt from this law that will ban smoking in pubs etc. Once again it is one rule for us while they do wat they feckin like.
The same people who make up these laws probably let their kids ride their bikes by busy roads where the pollution is hundreds, if not thousands of times higher than riding past someone smoking a cigarette. They also impose huge tax duty on tobacco that is a major contributor to the funding of the NHS. So; while many people are treated for smoking related illness, if this tax suddenly disappeared then the NHS would be in a worse state then it is now.
I think human rights only apply if you are a criminal or an asylum seeker, the rest of us can feck off except when it is election time.
If I ever have the misfortune to be visited by such officials they will have to go into my garden cos if I want to smoke in my own home then that's exactly wat i'll do.

Sure u must have this wrong. What u do in yr own home is down to u. I know they want to ban smoking in public places but have never heard of it being banned from the home. Where do u live and what council do u come under?

Banning smoking in a home is a bit crazy. If the government is going that far, why not just make cigarettes illegal? They're legal for a reason right? People choose to smoke.. now if people smoke around their children, I find that a bit different. However, if cigarettes are legal to buy, then they need to be legal to smoke somewhere. I used to smoke for 9 years, and thankfully was able to quit. But still, even as an anti smoking person, I find this crazy.

II think it actually means that if the careworker/etc objects, they can refuse to go into a house where the occupants smoke. I suppose this is fair. I'm a non-smoker and I find it hard to believe this is happening, but then, some people take things far too seriously. Still, I haven't seen anybody die from lung cancer yet, otherwise maybe I would object too.

I am a non smoker and always have been but government, local councils and jumped up officials are overstepping the mark.
They are stripping the general public of every penny they earn and telling them how to live their lives.
They unfortunately do not have the common sense to see that they are feckless and dictorial to the point that we would have probably had more freedom of choice under Hitler or Stalin

I think that is ridiculous. I am not a smoker, and I really can't stand people smoking near me, (although I used to smoke myself!). However, I agree it is taking it too far to ban smoking in people's own homes. Sounds very "Big Brother" to me!!!

You know what I really think? What's one of the biggest killers? CANCER right! Now why do you think the Government goes on so much about smokers? Are we all being brainwashed into hating smokers and blaming them for every form of cancer? No way! We all know about radiation from nuclear tests, and fallout from Chernobyl which came over here. We all heard about the cancer causing red food colouring some months ago. We all know that hot, spicy foods can cause stomach cancer. We all know that some children who lived under electricity pylons contracted Leukaemia. We all know that scientists have been telling us for some time that mobile phones cause brain tumours. We all know that there is a link between HRT (hormone replacement therapy) and breast cancer. Instead of picking on one section of society (as the Govt. hopes) why doesn't everyone think for themselves and SHOUT about it!

i used to think this. i live in Scotland and smoking in public places is now banned all over and to be honest it is much nicer without smoking indoors, people just smoke outside in designated areas. which if we in freezing Scotland have come to live with this then so can the rest of you, its not as big a deal as ud think, and its much nicer to be able to go anywhere and not be overwhelmed by other peoples smoke even when u do smoke urself. honest hunni its not so bad.

I don't think they will ban smoking altogether, think how much revenue they gain from it in taxes. Yes, I think it's pushing it a bit far when they say we can't smoke in our own homes. Its usually up to them to visit us anyhow not us asking them round for a cuppa and a breath of our smoke.

Councils are the biggest hypocrite's and should not be taken seriously - they are usually run by little men who get beaten by their wives! No one could stop you smoking in your own private property unless rented and stated in the tenants agreement.
