Babies come from love.
When a man and a woman love each other very much. A love that can only be felt between two grown ups (make sure you specify a love between two grown ups or your 3 yrs old might want to make a baby). And when both of those grown ups are ready. (your ready because you can feel it in your tummies)
The love will put a baby in the lady's belly.

Make sure to tell him/her that some grown ups who love each other very much who don't have children, just haven't gotten the feeling in there tummies. You don't know why they haven't, nobody does, all we know is that when the time is right, they will get to have a baby put in the lady's tummy too.

You must tell the little one this so he/she doesn't think any couples that don't have children don't love each other enough, and you don't want your little one asking your childrenless friends why they don't have babies...

The most popular fictional answer to this is that the stork brings them. Haven't you seen those little pictures?

But I think the best answer for a 3-year-old is that by a miracle, babies grow inside their mommy. If you are not against believing in God, it is best to tell them that God allows that miracle to happen. In my opinion that is not a lie, either. Although people have sex often, it doesn't always result in a baby. I think babies are miracles, and it's a wonderful way to explain the sanctity of life to a child.

Later on, you can tell him how God makes it happen.

Once in a while you will find a tiny baby in a chicken egg if you are lucky.
They sell babies in the Maternity ward at the hospital.
Babies come from eating too many watermelon seeds.

Why not just tell your 3 year old the truth in a way that he can understand.

Try telling the 3-year old that babies come from storks if that doesn't work then try telling the 3-year old that babies come from cabbage patch.

Having sufficient prenatal care, taking prenatal nutrients, treating STDs and heading off medicinal drugs and alcohol would possibly lower the threat of getting a child with a bodily deformity, however a few are simply flukes of nature and regardless of the mothers and fathers doing the whole lot proper a little one can correctly be born with a deformity.

When a couple love each other they go to a big flower patch and when the dawn come the flowers open up and babies are within, they (we,I) looked for the most beautiful baby and that was he/she (you).

since this was 9 years ago..she's 12 now....gonna answer this anyway...in the future i'd recommend saying the truth in a subtle way that won't scar them at a young age.the 3 yr old may tell other toddlers, then the parents 'll be mad, then they'll have 2 know the truth....i think u know where i'm going w/ this.

From the proverbial "White Stork" that delivers babies right on your doorsteps.

Or from the Cabbage Patch.
