Having Aspergers Syndrome myself I can say with certainty that most of the suggetions that have been raised so far will not work well. (Sorry to anyone that upset.) I would suggest that you try to find a more structured enviroment than the school or payground (structured by way of the social interactions than anything else) and someone within that environment that is willing to learn about Aspergers and be a buffer for him with the rest of the people there. This will allow him to learn (as slow as it may be sometime for us) how to interact with others. Secondly look all out for an Aspergers group that you can get information and (if local) support from, even if you have to contact a group in another country (not likely tough) then do so. Unfortunatly there is no easy answer to this one, all I can say is just keep trying. It will get harder before it gets easier, but It WILL get easier. I hope this helps.

There is a boy who is also 14 and has aspergers at my school. he doesn't have any friends because he does strange things like take off his socks and pick the lint and stuff from his feet, talks endlessly about video games and other magical/fantasy/war stuff, which no other boys are in to, and he randomly will pretend to shoot people. he is slightly chubby and does not seem to do sports. maybe you should not let your son do video games or fantasy stuff and get him active. the boy is not very comfortable around other kids. has he gone to a school counselor? find kids that are just like him or like the same things, or kids that are very considerate and will play with your son. good luck :)

What is asperger's syndrome? I think that a boy at my school has it. I am very proud of that boy however, because at lunch- he has more friends than I do!!! He is very popular, never minding his illness. Maybe your son is a little shy! If any of your friends have kids, maybe you could introduce them to your son. Hope I helped!

As a counselor for an after-school program for the local YMCA, I can tell you that any YMCA program is a great way to make friends. Since this is a Christian program all kids are included in programs even if you can't afford to on your own- scholarships are avalible. Sports programs are also a great alternative. Also as a school teacher I know that asking your child's teacher for ideas is a great alternative.

Maybe you and other parents with children in your son's classroom can get the children together for socialization when not in school. Ask you your son's doctor if they can put you in touch with other parents who wants friends for their child. Are there any relatives and family members willing to be his friend or maybe some teens from your church. I hope your son gets some friends soon.

Can he use a computer? There are online Multi-player games where he might be able to function well, without seeming strange to the other players.
Teen Second Life might be a good choice. People in these Virtual worlds make real friends, and have real relationships.

The best advice I have for you is to get him involved in support groups in your area where there are children just like him. He can relate better and they won't judge him. Children nowadays are so cruel!! He can also chat online - find pen pals his age.
