Hi Everyone!
I always shave my bikini area with no problems. Last night I couldn't find my razer so I used one of those cheap ones (you know the 3 for $1 kind) and shaved.
This morning when I got up the sides of my bikini area where red and had little bumps.
Is this the dreaded "razer burn"?

Anything I can do to heal it? How long till it usually goes away?

I just never knew it was that bad till I got dressed this morning!!!

THANKS!

Melissa

You shave to make your skin look better -smooth, hair-free, sleek. So the last thing that you want is to whisk the razor over your legs and raise up an ugly red rash. Unfortunately, a lot of women do just that when they shave incorrectly. They slap on soap and quickly shave over it, and end up with chafed, red skin -also known as razor burn.

Razor burn is actually a skin irritation. When you shave, you're basically peeling off part of your epidermis -the top layer of skin. The redness is a normal response to tissue injury. Blood flow increases to the area to heal the wound, and blood vessels dilate and become red.

Razor burn is hard to get rid of. Every time you shave again, you re-irritate your skin.

The best way to deal with razor burns is to stop shaving. Give your skin some rest and simply let your hair grow back for a while.

Use a soothing after-shave balm if you are already suffering from razor burns.

Applying apple cider vinegar is thought to be a good solution to razor burns.

Dissolve two uncoated aspirins in a teaspoon of warm water and mix into a paste. Apply this paste on the affected area. Wash it after sometime with lukewarm water. This will take care of the burning sensation.

An effective razor burn mask can be made by mashing a couple of strawberries with a 1 spoon of sour cream.
Apply this mixture after shaving and leave it for 10 minutes. Do this twice a week for fresh, razor burn free skin.

Witch hazel, mild salicylic acid solutions and Aloe Vera gel are known to provide relief for razor burns.

Sounds like you have shaver rash or razor burn. Consider using cornstarch for the current rash (or a antibodtic cream if it appears infected or a dab on a mild antiseptic such as tea tree oil.) The following technique in shaving should be used to prevent Irritation Before you do anything else, you should trim your pubic hair. Never attempt to shave public hair that’s long as it will clog or break your razor. Hair should be no longer than a quarter of an inch and you should make sure you use small sharp scissors for trimming. Pubic hair is coarser than head hair so before shaving pubic hair you should soften it. Soak in a hot bath or take a long hot shower. A clean pubic area will also help prevent skin irritations later on. Before you begin shaving, make sure the area is completely dry. Consider investing in a Body Bare shaver, or least a Bikini razor that have the moisture stick head. Before shaving pubic hair, make sure the area is well covered with shaving foam or gel. . If you are prone to ingrown hairs, mix a little Priva Shave (Ingrown Hair Prevention Treatment) or similar product with your shaving cream. Leave for two to three minutes. With one hand, gently pull the skin so that it’s taut. With the other hand shave upwards using long strokes against the direction of hair growth. To avoid ingrown hairs, don’t shave to close, apply too much pressure or shave the same area over and over again. Make sure the area you shave is covered in foam or gel or you could get razor burns, which can be very painful. Run the razor under the tap regularly or it will clog. When you have finished your pubic shaving, dry the area gently using a soft towel. Apply Aloe Vera or baby oil to soothe the skin and help prevent itching.

Fortunately enough for you, razor burn lasts for but a few days and there are a few things you can do to treat the pesky bumps.
Try applying cold water to the irrigated area along your bikini line ( this calms the burn), apply aloe vera gel (calms and heals), I’ve also heard of people applying unscented deodorant directly along the bikini line, not sure how it works...
Wait a couple days to shave again and keep moistened

try to avoid shaving it for a while it will probs make things worse n yh i think it was mainly the cheap razor that caused it as its got no moisture strip, use some soothing shaving cream i had troubles with shaving my armpits as i always get a rash n this always does the trick :)

yes, the razor burn has arrived. keep the area moisturized but dry, does that make sense? hope for no ingrown hairs. just dont scratch because the bacteria from your fingernails can cause infection. give it a couple days. you'll be fine.

Leave it alone. Exfoliate when you bathe. Visine will take the redness out if you have, say, a bikini modeling shoot coming up. Otherwise, just leave it alone and it will go away.

And yes, it's razor burn.
