Ca. allows "Safe and Sane" fireworks. No rockets or mortars, nothing that leaves the ground on its own. No exploding fireworks like firecrackers/cherry bombs. What you w2ill see are small fountains ,sparklers and pinwheels. Cities and counties have their own restrictions. Riverside county does not allow any fireworks except those little party poppers. Any law about backyards is local. I grew up in Orange County and you could set them off on the sidewalk if you wanted. Disneyland does not sell fireworks. And if you saw them there being used then you have not been there in 20 years or more. They stopped nightly fireworks in the 1980's because people complained about the noise and occasional spent shells falling in yards. Even though Disneyland had been doing it since it opened and before those houses were built. Edit: Dougee you are almost correct. I have not been to Disneyland since about 1992. And at that time they had stopped fireworks and changed to the light show projected on a water screen. If they have resumed I stand corrected. I suppose that since they have expanded and now own so much of the surrounding are they can have them again.

Ban selling them in shops completely. Unfortunately there are "some" (not all before you kids complain!) teenagers who cannot be responsible with fireworks and it's like giving a loaded gun to a monkey. People get hurt, sometimes killed and animals too. They are dangerous and shouldn't be sold willy nilly. It's a shame that we live in a society that have no control but that's life now I'm afraid. (I sound like an old grump but I'm not!). For instance a few years ago I lived in a flat and there were kids setting rockets alight from trees across the road and they were aiming them at the balconies and my children were babies then. I looked out and one flew past my head! They are bad news and should be saved for fireworks night only.

I see your point totally. Even teenagers such as 18-19 still act immature and stupid. Its their mental age that counts.
I think shops should have a catalogue where you browse pictures and prices of fireworks and then you order them and pick them up in store. I believe you should be 25 and over to buy them too. People shouldn't be offended by this either as they should under stand the dangers. Theres too many idiots out there and people end up seriously injured. I love Bonfire Night but that should be the only night for fireworks,(apart from new years eve).

No, they should only be sold for organised displays. It always amazes me that a government can spend so much time and effort bringing in legislation to stop a few foxes being killed, and yet it is quite happy to allow its citizens to be maimed and injured by fireworks year after year. Are fireworks taxed??
Before anyone takes offence I don't actually have an opinion one way or another over fox-hunting, but I feel there are a huge amount of more important issues that should have been addressed first.

You may hate them. But I bet the teenagers love them. I remember when I was a teenager and I loved the evenings hunting round the streets with my mates letting them off, and running for dear life in case we were caught by the local residents. In those times were some of the best high's of my life.
Perhaps you should take comfort in the thought that these fireworks represent youth, hope, and optimism in a pessamistic world.

OK, first of all to those who compared fireworks to dynamite, there is no comparison. I say that fireworks, if used in a responsible manner, are fun and interesting, and if someone misuses them and burns him/herself, it's their own damn fault. Oh yeah, guess what, very few people are 'maimed' by fireworks. One more thing, if someone hurts another person by using fireworks, they should face jail time. But fireworks should be available in shops and shanties and stands etc.

no, they're a hazard to the health of the general health. i never, even as a child, saw the fun in loud, dangerous things that gave off a lot of bright colours. i can't see how the hell adults are entertained by them - i'd much rather be copping off with some lass or having fun with my mates or watching paint dry than going to a sh.itty fireworks show

Totally ban them...think of the injuries prevented, and money saved because hospitals wouldn't have to deal with the repercussions of idiots with fireworks.

It's ridiculous. They are going off already now sometimes at midnight. They should only be sold to a minimum age of 21with ID at select outlets.
I am very tempted to shove the rockets up their arsesss.
