Rooney certainly has some serious talent... more than anyone who finds themself talking about his talent, but overrated... yeah, probably. He is young, and many times when people are young and have the talent of people 8-10 years older, they are treated as if they have more talent and I think that is what has happened with Rooney. He certainly has not stepped up to match V. Nistelrooy's output in terms of goals, but he is stronger on the ball... so while he is overrated, I don't think that Man U could stay near the top without him right now. Just some thoughts.

many people that dislike Rooney do so cause he's quality and plays for united. For example cheap insults flying his way. It's not hard to see the talent he has, even if he has a crap game. For his age he's pretty darn good no? I support united to obviously I'm bias but if i supported tother team i'd still recognize the class! I think pundits go on about his amazingness so much cause he's young n came from no where. Over rated by people that go on too much and kiss his backside but not in terms of being most talented youngster in prem.

Well he was thrust way up there by Erikkson for instance and some pundits.
But he is without doubt the best English 2nd striker. I say 2nd striker because he is not a centrefroward and was wasted there in Sven's 1-5-4 systems. He has range, good passing, desire, a mean shot, and he is creative.
Now he has a temper to be sure as any United or England fan well knows, but he is without doubt one of the best young players in the game.

If you compare the hype surrounding his "talents" to what he's actually achieved, then yeah he's overrated. I prefer a consistent ordinary player over one who occasionally shows flashes of brilliance. That said, he's only 21 and I think, given time, he will grow into one of the best in the world. Most players don't really hit their peak until they're about 24/25 anyway.

Rooney works hard and he has a passion for the game that other players don't have. You know that Rooney will go balls out every game.

no, that's just a popular view to have right now. and people who support liverpool tend to believe it aswell. his work rate, his skill and his vision are impeccable and he could become the greatest english player ever (which isn't saying too much....). it's important to remember that he isn't an out-and-out striker, he'll never get 30 goals a season and i can't see him getting 20 most seasons, but it's his creativity that makes him class - he makes goals. as i've already said, his work rate is tremendous; he doesn't just stay up the park waiting for the ball to come to him.

Ah yes, our wounded striker that has never scored a world cup goal at any stage of the tournament, qualifiers or later stages. No-one is worth the money that he and many others command. This cost to have him play is translated into seat prices and the need for merchandising, so as such, they are the cause of the rise in seat prices for football. But in relation to baseball players (who admittedly play 162 games in a season) and US footballers (who may only have a couple of good seasons and high injury rates) who will be on $400,000 minimum per year for the lower players and probably 10-20 million for the top players per year (One player was on, I think, $1.1 million contract over 5 years). Its all relative - but i wouldn't pay that much to see him play and for me that is all that counts - if i was offered it i would take it - wouldn't you! (but I would get rid of his money grabbing g/f!)

All footballers are overrated. They just kick a ball around a field and get paid hundreds of thousands a week for it? I think it's totally ridiculous, also it ruins their life, they have no privacy, never get a proper 'break' or holiday as there's always media poking in
