I work at a nursing home with limited resources and money and we want to dye silk scarves as a fund raiser. The easier the technique the better as the residents will be doing the work themselves. Thanks for any input you can offer. :-)

I use kool aid packets to dye wool, maybe you can use that for silk too...

This sound really dumb, but really, try soaking them in kool aid for2 hours. Take them out, and you have dyed scarves lol.

You could also use diluted or undiluted food coloring

You could try dipping them in things with strong colors. For example, if you soak the silk scarves in wine, and dry it, its a reddish color.

Finally, you can try T shirt dye. Ask around your local wal mart, target etc. and they can lead you to T - shirt tye dye. You can soak scarves in T - shirt tye dye and they will have the same effect as they would on a T shirt.
