I don't think anyone has actuallyy put down an actuall death metal band except for Lamb of God.
Now while I will not down play Lamb of God, I'm just not that big of a fan.
When talking about Death Metal, you can't forget Cannibal Corpse, but I think my favorite death metal band is Six Feet Under. How can you not like Chris Barns? He has a new band right now, and it is freaking amazing, but I can't recall the name of it.
Dew Scented is pretty good to. Dahmer is good as well. Who can forget Deicide!

Black metal: got to go with Hecate Enthroned! Those guys are sic. Slipknot is cool too. Fear Factory, Slayer of course, Sepultura the old stuff, Ministry etc.
