when we stay home and do a halloween party w' the kids instead of trick or treating.. we usually end up buying 9 or 10 big bags.. but that's for party consumption too. I would say an average street would take about 4.

Last year was our first year in our new house and I wasn't sure how many bags I should buy. I bought five bags initially. My husband and I had to make three more trips to the store! All total, we gave out 14 bags! I'm more than ready this year.

One bag. where I live, I am out of the way. I have had about 10 kids in 16 years, so we eat the leftovers, which is alot.
