I just got back from a Follicle Scan...i'm on 50mg of clomid. My doc said that my ovaries had lots of cysts on them and that's prob why i'm having a hard time ovulating. Does Clomid cause cysts because i don't think they were there before...i was pregnant in may and he never said anything about them being there. Then he started measuring something and told me to come back for another ultrasound on Monday. So are follicles and cysts the same thing? cuz i don't understand what he measured then.

follicles are something you already have, they have something to do with pregnancy and getting pregnant, like the more you have the higher chance of pregnancy. But cyst are little water filled sacs that form in your uterus, they look like little bubbles, like when you get a blister. They are not the same and they can grow fast. I had laprascopy in April and at an ultrasound in august I had no cyst, but at a ultrasound at the end of September I had one. See i a month I had one appear. Because of the cyst being in the way your egg can not travel down, but I don't believe clomid can cause them, but I could be wrong, you should ask your doctor.

No, they are not the same thing. The follicles are what hold the eggs before they are released. Cysts form when a follicle doesn't release an egg. Clomid does not cause cysts either. Clomid is what they use to assist with getting pregnant when you have Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome. Sounds like your doctor needs to fully explain to you why you are on Clomid. Also, make sure they tell you the chances of you concieving more than one baby when you are on it.

I have polycystic ovarian syndrome and was put on metformin to control it. I also was put on clomid, which my doctor told me causes cysts - so it's a win/lose situation. Again, I would talk to your doctor about your concerns!

cysts look like little air bubbles on your ovaries - they are not there naturally, rather they grow there on their own. follicles are actual, natural parts of the ovaries where the eggs develop before they are sent to the uterus and fertilized.
