Most IT guys I know, and I was one, tend to look real sloppy. Shaggy hair and beard, sandals, food stains on their shirts, fat. They are not lookers, but a very few of them are real wizards with a computer. Though, sh, I don't want it to get out. I have finally succeeded in disappearing from the IT world. I got burned out. Everybody and their uncle wants you at all hours of the day with the famous words, my computer broke. I was always neat and trim. I didn't fit the mold of an IT guy at all. Some of them smell and I suspect they sleep in their clothes. However, if you want someone who really knows what he is doing, don't judge the book by its cover. I really couldn't make it in that world anyway. I always told the truth. Little old lady with an old pre-pentium computer wants it fixed. I told her that the parts would cost a fortune, not to speak of my fee. I told her to save her money and get a new computer. I even took her down and showed her which one to buy. My wife reminded me that I could never make a living doing stuff like that. True, but I never had the heart to rip people off. Guy calls up and can't get on the internet. I go to his house, look behind his computer and pull the telephone line out of his nic card and plug it into his modem. Another guy calls me and can't get his brand new printer to work. I go to his house unplug the usb plug and plug it in again. Another guy just built his own computer and can't get it started. I go to his house and look behind his power supply and find it is turned off. Now in each of these cases, the fix was in seconds. I just did not have the heart to charge them. Lucky for me, there was a big time layoff from the It world and now I have a job totally away from it and making money.

khakis that are 1" too short, pennyloafers with a penny in them, and a white button up shirt with brown vertical stripes with an ink stain in the pocket and with a brown tie with white diagonal stripes. Oh and also a hole in the pocket to lose change from.

I think business casual is fine in that case. My husband is in IT too. I would wear khakis and a collared shirt or a sweater.

Most IT guys wear socks with their berkenstocks. That's consider "Business Casual."
