After buying more computers than I can easily recall, I do not hesitate when I tell you that I would NOT buy a Dell for ANY amount of money. I've owned too many of them to have any faith in their products and their customer service should be renamed "customer dis-service".

Buy anything from eBay and you are taking a serious risk. I've had more than one system that I bought there go **POOF** within a couple of days of very conservative use and nothing happens when I complain thru eBay's "customer dis-service".

The fact of the matter is that with Microsoft Vista about to be launched in January, there are NO "really good" laptops for under $800 right now. The crap you can buy for that price most likely will NOT be able to run Vista. That's why they are so cheap. The retailers (Wal-Mart, Circuit City, et al) KNOW that those systems are going to be completely worthless once Vista launches and they won't be able to GIVE them away. My gut tells me that this is the main reason that Microsoft is not launching Vista until after the new year – so that the retailers can move the junk off of the shelves that can’t run their new OS.

When you are ready to buy a new system, go to www.stupidcheapcomputers.net. I buy all of my stuff from them, and everything is Vista ready.

Their stock rotates thru every business day and I've seen "really good" laptops there for as little as $850. The only problem is that you need to order from them as soon as you see it because there are a LOT of people watching the site daily and they snatch up those deals whenever they come along. Hit 'em often and grab 'em quick because those folks don't play when it comes to finding deals.

I bought a complete, new system from them with a warranty for LESS than it would cost me to build it myself or order a custom one from the manufacturer. You can use my frequent buyer code: ATX926. That will get an additional 10% discount at checkout.

I have NEVER had any problems with anything that they have sold me and their customer service is outstanding. Those guys blow my mind.

Good luck!

I personallu recommend Dell. My family has been a customer from Dell for many many years and they have never let us down. Dell offers many different levels of laptops from basic to very advanced ultimate gaming pc. Dell also offer fully loaded refurbished Laptops which are priced less that the retail price.
For you depending on your price range, you should get a Dell Inspiron, they range from 499-1329 without any additional features added. I would recommend you purchase the Dell Isnpiron E1505, at 699 and add up a few features. Do not get the dell inspiron B130. the Inspiron B130 is a very low technology, basic computer with a bad design and is not worth the price.

Also if You do not want a dell, and can spend some more, get a MAC. The Apple OS (operating system) has a lot less viruses than the Windows OS (e.g. Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista) also a Mac can be faster.

Good luck with buying your PC.

Nope, I'm not buying one. Have one already.

Try eBay and look for one with the features you want. Or try the numerous on-line computer sellers and re-sellers.
