Read them in the wrong order third first and then the first. And was hooked.

They do link all the other storys together though, Wizards and Glass is quite a good one in the series if you like Eye of the Dragon.

I love Stephen King and have all his books but I could just not get into those at all. I think I read 2 and this is really unlike me. Are they really worth perservering with? Email me and let me know if you can. By the way he has a new book out now called Liseys story. I'm reading it in a mo in bed and it seems quite good!

I love Stephen King's characters. I believe well written characters make a book. The Dark Tower series threw me though. I think I read 2 of them. They remind me more of Clive Barkers work. I have heard the ending was a surprise to a lot of people. Maybe you are the exception! :-)

The end did take me by surprise to be honest. I wasn't sure what i was expecting but that definitely wasn't it. It was quite sad in a way, knowing that he would have to go through all those experiences again until he finally got it right.

To the person who asked whether the books are worth persevering with - they are. They are very interesting and it is quite clever how he manages to extend the story into his other books even though they are not related.

I'm a huge fan of the Dark Tower series. I didn't see the ending coming and for a few days was a touch disapointed but then relised that it couln't really have ended any other way. i think Stephen King said something simmiler, but there you are.

Actually it didn't take me by surprise. He dropped hints along the way with what the characters said as they were dying. Roland just chose to ignore all of what was said, just to discover at the end that it's not the prize, but the journey that makes it worthwhile.

Should have. but, in all honesty... I was impressed with the ending. I thought it fit Roland like a glove. Loved it, and still would like to write King and tsll him so.
