They have been out there for years now.....its a constant rising level of out of control behaviors, and where I lived the thugs were never in the house.

I'm the same age as you are, I used to hang around in the streets when I was 14/15 but didn't cause trouble, although old ladies used to call the police on us becuase they thought we were!
I think the type of teenager you are talking about is the minority although it seems that they all are. You are in fact talking about the "neds" of our society who I hate with a passion! They are the ones who shot an air riffle at my 84 year old grandmothers window (yet the police said they couldn't do anything about it!). The one's who smashed in my car windows and battered my friend walking home, just because she "apparently gave them a dirty look".
They are out of control. The police can't do much about their behaviour due to their age, unless they do something really terrible like kill someone.
I hate being intimidated by children in our streets when I am a grown woman!
I think the only way to tackle the problem (if policing our streets doesn't work) is for local communities to band together to fight these chav's. The government needs to look at it's policies for teenage crime more than ever.

I agree with the person who says it seems like youth were more free in the 70's & 80's. I grew up in the 60's and I know we were definately more free then. But you can't stereotype young people any more than you can any other group. There are all kinds. Every generation has to find it's own way to shock and rebel. If there is one thing I think is out of control it is popular music and TV. It has definately degenerated over the decades. And it has so much influence over young people. There needs to be better role models.

yes youth today are more out of control than before. part of that is do to the parents not taking control. i was spanked when i was younger, today kids get like a 5 min. timeout or an adult saying not to do something. parents need to take responsibility. there are many children raising themselves because the parents are out drinking or on drugs. it's sad, but the truth. family principles aren't valued as much as they used to be, hence the reason why God is being taken out of schools and such.

You can't do anything. It's their parents. I think a lot more kids who are 14-15 are roaming about as they please, but most of the time they commit small damages like your side mirror. I would suggest that if the kids are hanging out in a certain area then call a cop to try and patrol that area.

It isn't fair to categorise all youth as either good or bad. There are still a lot of good kids about, you just don't get to hear so much about them. Possibly the section of youth which is out of control is getting more out of control, but what proportion they are of "youth as a whole" I wouldn't like to guess.

What is generally needed is an enforcer like in the Philipines -'The punisher' as he is known. Yobs get one chance only, one wing mirror ripped off they can get let off with a warning if the second one gets ripped off Its a bullet in the back.

like yourself, i am 25 and i agree that kids nowadays are given a free ride. of course, not all kids are badly behaved and cause havoc everywhere they go, but there is a small minority of them who wish to ruin it for other kids of their generation. i can understand why certain people, especially the elderly feel somewhat intimidated and uncomfortable about them hanging around in certain areas, shouting obscenities, swearing, provoking other people, its just uncalled for.
i think communities, as well as the police need to take a much harder stand with troublemakers by condemning unacceptable behaviour and that such abuse- verbal or physical- warrants arrest and that they get instant ASBOs or fined a couple of hundred pounds.
kids today need to be taught that respect doesn't just happen at home but out in public, especially in the streets and in the neighbourhoods and to conduct themselves in an orderly fashion. and that respect is not something that is given to them on a plate, nor is it handed to them for them to make use of it- they have to earn it, just like the rest of us- the hard way. whether they like it or not.

I'm not sure what can be done I'm only 18 myself but it does make me nervous when you see large groups of "those types" of kids i know their the same age or younger but it's still scary. But i guess if anything was to be done it would have to be some kind of activity centre just something to keep them off the streets.

I think they're out of control. That's the ones that are hanging out on the street late at night. Not every kid is out of control but some are and those are the ones we should be worried about.
