I don't read the other answers as a general rule. The only time I'll do that is if I'm answering in a specific category such as the sciences. Then I'll read the other answers because I don't want to duplicate so it doesn't confuse the questioner. Often, I'll just add a bit of information, or a side note, to what has already been explained.
Anyway, I don't do that here in the Polls & Surverys category. I just read the question & type out my answer and send it out there. If it's been said before, then c'est la vie.

I do read first. However when I don't see my answer already there, by the time I have finished typing my answer a dozen people have already given the same answer.

I always look first, but sometimes there are no answers, yet by the time I enter my answer and click "submit" there are often 10 answers that weren't there before I started answering!

Yeah me too. It doesn't particularly matter if someone has already said roughly the same thing I'm thinking, I'll say it anyway.

I usually scan through the answers if the question is such, that the answers will be kind of similar.
