i have had the same neighbors for the last 5 years and everytime we have a yard sale they call code enforcement on us because u are only allowed to have yard sales 2 times a year.however my husband has a business license for our address but code enforcement says that u can't have a business where u live. its not zoned for business. so what am i supposed to do, for the time being this is our only income, how can i make them stop? or what can i do to fight code enforcement?

Is there anyway you could maybe get "permission" from your neighbors? I mean, what if you went over there and had a chat with them and explained your circumstances and maybe they'll compromise?

You are breaking a law. You don't fight the law when you admit you are guilty.

Now that your neighbors and code enforcement both know, you have four choices: 1) sell on ebay or at a consignment shop, 2) move, 3) only hold them according to code 4) get a regular job and stop depending on the sales

Its more like what can the neighbors do about you. Do you realize how it effects their property to have neighbor who is constantly having yard sales? Don't you ever run out of stuff? Or do you go out and get more stuff to sell out your weekly yard sale? Why don't you get a booth at a local flea market and sell all your junk there? Code enforcement will get tired of your gas and start writing you tickets and then put a lean on your property if you think you don't have to pay. Not your property just a renter then eventually they will put a bench warrant out for your arrest. Then when you are stopped for a traffic violation they will take you to jail and impound your car and take you children, if with you to protective custody. I'd say stop having yard sales...

No, you cant have a business out of your home in many cases. If the code says only 2 per year, than there is nothing to do about it. Try selling on ebay. Your neigbors are just idiots, the kind that you just want to rent a bulldozer and run through their house while they watch. If you have friends their or other neigbors that would let you sell at their location you can do that. Put up a tall fence between you guys on your side of the property and put the ugly side of the fence towards them. Only do it on one side so they get the picture.

Have your yard sales when they're away. Or, maybe you could offer to sell their junk for them, then i'll be worth their while to leave you alone.

Try taking your stuff to a flea market and selling there, or list the stuff on e-bay.
