Without a doubt...Imagine by John Lennon...Can you imagine the sort of sad mental state he was in while writing this song? And this song is more meaningful now than it ever was in its time...dont you think?
'Imagine there's no heaven, Its easy if you try
No hell below us, above us only sky
Imagine all the people, living for today
Imagine there's no country, it isnt hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for, and no religion too
Imagine all the people, living life in peace
You may say I'm adreamer, but i'm not the only one
I hope someday you join us
And the world would be as one
Imagine no possessions, i wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger, a brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people, sharing all the world
You may say Im a dreamer, But im not the only one
I hope someday you join us, and the world will live as one'
After hearing this song for the first time, i burst into tears...I wish my great great great great great great grandchildren see a world like this....

A little known song by Andrew Gold called Genevieve, great lyrics and great music... not commercially a bit hit, but I always write music I like rather than write it for the masses
I'm very self critical about my own music though, but yeah, theres lots of songs I'd have liked to have written...
c'est la vie!

I don't know the title or the artist, but I love the song! "The higher you build your barriers, the taller I become" etc... Anyone tell me what this song is? It's by a black dude, and I absolutely love it!
And a close second, in fact not even second but equal, is "Pomp and Circumstance March No 3" - but that's a few hundred years outside your timeframe!

I wish I would have written "Goodbye" by Lyfe Jennings. The lyrics of this song are so true, and the song says a lot of things that people wish they could say, but can't. I wish everyone that wants to let go, but can't should listen to this song.

It's not from the 30's, but "Yesterday". It's the most covered song of all time. Imagine the royalties.
