Plus, it started back at a time when the U.S. was the only country playing baseball on such a level, and it's a catchy name. Why should they change it now? Besides, no other club in any country could come close to competing, especially when their best players come here to play.
One thing that annoys me about the answers I've seen to that question - the World Series is NOT named after any newspaper. That's just a myth that for some reason lives on in Yahoo Answers.

The mlb is the top level of pro baseball in the world and players come to play at the top level from around the world. if you haven't noticed there are quite a few different nationalities in the mlb

Yes, it´s a non sense question because world series it´s just a name. Today we have the baseball classic, which is the world championship, and Japan it´s the champion.

actually, toronto has a team, and toronto is in canada, so it is literally two countries, to be called World something there only has to be 2 or more countries
