We play spades a lot, I usually count 1pt for Aces and 1/2pt for Kings, dependent on the makeup of the rest of the hand/suit. I was wondering...

What are the odds being completely void in a suit? How about just having a singleton?

One source I looked at said void is 19:1 and a singleton is 2:1, but that sounds too high.

According to the Encyclopedia of bridge, the probability of holding a void in a specified suit (before dealing) is 1.279% and the probability of holding a void in any suit is 4*1.297% or 5.188%.

The probability of a void in a specified hand N,S,E, or W would be the same 1.279% and the probability of a void in any of the 4 hands would be 4 times this or 5.188%

The probability of holding a singleton in a specified suit is 8.006 and any of the 4 suits is 32.024%

These answers are approximately the same as those you cited.
