I'm looking for something easy, eye-catching, and preferably edible to help me seat my family in the most peace-ensuring configuration.

Although not edible, I received kudos for these settings.
For one gathering I used the miniature pumpkins as name card holders. I used a very sharp knife and cut a slit in the top of the stem and placed the cards in the stems. Then all of my guests got to take their pumpkins home.

At another gathering I bought some silk "fall leaves". I used a paint pen to write the guest's names on them. I used them after the dinner as "drawing" tickets for the parting gifts.

I have also used giant sugar cookies and used an icing pipe to write the guests names.

I hope your party goes well and enjoy yourself too!

Get some great fall-color leaves from outdoors and use a gold or silver pen. Easy, cheap and beautiful! Also goes well with the T-Give theme.

If you take two chocolate covered graham crackers and a little bit of frosting to stick them together to form a "V". Then take some white icing or any color that you like and write their names on it. You can embellish with swirls and what not. As well as using different colors.

give everyone a candybar, but give the candy bar a new wrapper over the original one and change the name of the candybar to your family members name. this works the best if you use the font and colors of the candy bar (so if you use a hershey bar, make it the dark maroon color with silver lettering)

How about a small apple with a paper leaf coming from the stem, each with gold lettering in each person's name.
