The Jungle by Sinclair talked about the food industry. Within the book he describes a meat locker, rats crawling on the food and leaving their feces behind. How workers left snot and sweat all over the meat. Business owners became upset as people didn't want to buy their product. After this book was published the people demanded that the government regulate food purity. The Food Purity act was passed and the FDA (Food and drug Administration) was born.

That sounds like a painful essay to do. You really do need to form your own opinion on why people were so upset. Personally I found it upsetting because of the health hazards discussed. I recommend going to your local library and asking for the Cliff's Notes on "The Jungle". It can help you keep track of what's important in the book and the main ideas. Plus, in the back there is stuff on possible test and essay questions. Hint, hint.
-Good luck!

Unfortunately you need to come up with your own conclusions.
