If it is a single lever type, you can replace the ball that controls water flow. You can get a kit for this.
Regular two handle types can usually be fixed by replacing the washer. How ever sometimes the seat is bad and it will damage new washers rather quickly. The seat can also be replaced without too much trouble. (Which ever type, don't for get to shut the water supply off before working on the faucet). I haven't purchased or replace a seat for some time. You may need to get a seat wrench if it doesn't come with the seats.
Hope this is of some help to you.

Where is it leaking from, the tip or the base?
if it's leaking from the tip, here's a quick workaround to temporarily get rid of the annoying drip noise.
* Tie dental floss to the spout of a dripping faucet to get rid of the annoying dripping noise until you are able to fix the leak. Use a strand long enough to reach the bottom of the sink and the water will quietly slide down the floss. For best results use un-waxed dental floss as the water drops will stick on better.
Most the fix-its I find are from Bob Vila's site:
Here's one of his articles on fixing leaky/drippy faucets and it includes pictures:

I suggest going to the Bob Vila site to find out what type of faucet you have and then continue on to the HomeDepot Site
(http://www.homedepot.com/prel80/HDUS/EN_US/diy_main/pg_diy.jsp?CNTTYPE=PROD_META&com.broadvision.session.new=Yes&CNTKEY=Know+How%2FPlumbing&CNTKEY=Know+How%2FPlumbing) for the fix to your specific faucet.
I hope this gets you going; it sure beats how long you might've had to wait for a plumber and how much you'd have to pay for their parts and their labor.
Good Luck!
