I have always believed that special meant exactly that, special, better than average. A highly intelligent person is special, someone who is selfsacrificing is special, a generous person is special, dinner at a nice restaruant is special, etc. Functioning at normal or below normal level isn't special.

Why are people killed by terrorists called heroes? They aren't heroes--they're victims.

That is a very mean thing to say. saying that a child who is disabled in some area is special is just a nice way of saying that he or she's disabled. handicapped is a very mean thing to say, because centuries ago, handicapped was an insult people used against disabled people, that they could only sit on a curb with a cap in their hand and ask for money. Special is a much nicer way to say that than handicapped. Besides- people who are disabled don't function below normal level. They just can't do some things as well as us.

Your definitions of special are quite interesting.
A person with perfect mental and physical health has it quite easy.
A person with mental or physical disabilities are SPECIAL because they can survive in this world without the advantages that we have.
Everyone is special but it takes a very special person to survive a world like this, with people that think the way you do.

Because they are special gifts from God and if you were blessed with one of these it is because God is trying to teach you an important lesson in Love and His grace and goodness and that is special, our childern teach us more than we teach them most of the time we just dont realize it.

Children with a handicap usually have something more special than what people w/o handicaps have. They are talented in areas that no one can compete with. I can't believe you don't understand that??
