Any ideas please, but please, nothing on abortion, dieting, or weight gained or lost. Only because my professor doesn't want to hear that. Also, I have not learned how to use powerpoint yet, and I need a good visual aid that i could either download and print or something I could bring with me to class that I could possibly already have. Something very impressive.

I did my persuasive speech having one parent stay home while only one is working. Citing that one that the family can do it financially, that the children are more secure and that the adults can work more harmoniously together.

I used stats of broken homes and two parent housing, crime rate, grades, drug and used pictures of families. It was 20 years ago but I go an A

How about something that you personally believe in? Maybe something as simple as "people should not smoke" or "people should believe in God." If you believe in it yourself, you'll already be able to come up with several reasons why your audience should agree with you.

Remember, also, to consider your audience. Maybe some of them are smokers, for example. You need to not only tell them why smoking is bad, but anticipate the arguments they would make against you and address these in your speech as well. You need not only to give good reasons to support your point, but to counter arguments that you know or think exist.

Don't worry about making your visual aid 'very impressive.' Try to make sure it's meaningful, and I think you'll be more successful.

Democracy is at stake in this November's election.
The country is threatened by global warming and international terrorism aggravated by the Republican administration's War for Oil. A change in Congress and the state legislatures at this time could force the president to act sensibly on issues from global warming to torture which he has so far behaved infantilely. The Republican Party has demonstrated it's moral emptiness by trying to hide Foley. Just glean the facts from CNN.

The point of a persuasive speech is to convince the listener that what you believe is true. You could choose any type of 'argument' and present that. Disposable diapers vs cloth, root beer vs doctor pepper, Chevy vs Ford..... whatever you think you could come up with a convincing argument for.
