Because we gave them enough rope to hang themselves, and they did.
Why are they hoping to get re-elected? Because they are finding that there are enough dumb people who will turn a blind eye to everything they have done to give them hope.

The most telling thing is that they do have hopes of being re-elected DESPITE massive spending, steel tariffs, lax border security and other domestic shortcomings.
It demonstrates how Democrats are perceived to be a worse choice to many voters (I'm one of them).
