Odysseus is a very good leader. He trusts his men completely - he allows them to tie him up so he can listen safely to the Sirens. He bravely saves his men from Circe. He bravely leads his men in the very dangerous escape from the Cyclops. He cares deeply for his men. All of Odysseus' problems are caused by the god Poseidon; it it hadn't been for Poseidon's enmity, Odysseus would have got his men back home from the Trojan war safely and quickly. Sometimes Odysseus' men let him down - they don't come up to his high standards - so perhaps Odysseus' only fault as a leader is that he doesn't always understand his men's moral weaknesses clearly enough.

(I haven't read Othello...)

Both Othello and Odysseus are excellent leaders, particularly Odysseus because he holds more influence in his country of Ithaca. Odysseus and Othello are both somewhat cocky and make errors along their way and have weaknesses, but generally have good leadership skills.

I belive Odysseus thinks more of himself then the men he leads. He often gets himself into tight situations and then his men die trying to get him and the others of situation. However he does have courage, forsight, and a great devotion to return home and these are qualites of good leaders. Although Odysseus may not be a good overall leader he is very good at handling crisis in the moment.

Odysseus did not lead effectively from what I recall, none but he survived if I remember correctly.
