Dude, have some fun! Presumably if they're firing you, you're not looking for them for a recommendation, so you have nothing left to risk, right?

So why not amuse yourself! You could take long lunches, come in late, etc., but you'll have time off when you get fired, so use your time at the office "wisely." Dress in costumes. Come in your robe and pjs! Sing loudly on conference calls. Page yourself over the loudspeaker and don't disguise your voice. Say all the things you've wanted to say to coworkers, but never could. Decorate your work area - change the theme every day. Hoard office supplies in your cube and complain there aren't any. Clean fish (rent Office Space and do anything it suggests in there).

You will not just lose your job, but you will become job legend!

If they fire you you can collect unemployment. If you can't stand your job another minute and you want out now then quit before they fire you. If you quit I do not think you can collect unemployment benefits. Use your own judgement for your situation. I have been in a situation where it was so bad and I think now the employer wasn't going to fire me because he did not want to pay unemployment but I was the most miserable I have almost ever been at that job. I quit in a pool of tears and got the hell out of there.

I'd be out looking for a new job so I could quit before I got fired.

They fire you. They pay unemployment while you look for a new job. So, let them fire you. DO NOT QUIT!

It is easier to collect unemployment if you are fired than if you resign, but then you have a negative job reference

well if I didn't care for the job and I didn't need the refrence I would hide raw pork in odd places and do an upper decker... Other then that I would resign in 2 weeks... if i had no beef with the company

Get your next job lined up. And keep doing your best at work, you might need some good references, even if your instinct is to screw over you boss or co-workers. Good Luck.

It depends on what they were firing me for. If it were misconduct, I would resign before they could fire me. If it were downsizing or something not my fault, I would let them and then collect unemployment.

Do you need a reference?

If so, don't do anything unprofessional.

You can start "confidentially" posting your resume - submitting to other companies - get the groundwork laid for your job search ...
