Yes!! What a terrible thing to do. How would you like that if someone did that to you when you were already having a day from hell. Have you never been rude to someone? What goes around comes around, as they say. I would think this through very carefully and ask yourself "is this really the kind of person that I want to be?" Hopefully the answer is no. Since you have asked the question that is a good sign that some part of you feels like a jerk for doing it. So learn from this and be the person that YOU what to be, not the person who changes with the wind in response to the behavior of those around you.

I just hope your boss never finds out about this incident. Even rude people deserve good customer service - after all they probably had somewhere to go and was just trying to get your gracious and helpful assistance. Maybe you should take some psychology classes - then you could have an easier time dealing with rude people.
I've had upset/rude people call me and complaining about tons of issues - I just take a deep breath, allow them to vent (taking notes all the time) and start thinking of the best way to deal with this person. The first thing you do not want to do, is add fuel to the fire. You must come up with a way to put the fire out and end up with a happy customer - it takes practice but it can be done. I do it all of the time.

Absolutely. So they were rude. You work with the public or with a corporation that is made up of individuals who are all different. You can never tell what kind of person your going to get or what kind of mood they'll be in, get over it. Its just part of life and you will have to deal with it sooner or later, besides, I can guarantee you that at least once in your life, you will make another persons life hell for a while and never even think your doing it. So, give them a break, there but for the grace of god . . .

Yeah, and if you're caught, you'll instantly get fired. I hope you get canned too, because regardless of how rude someone is on the phone while booking a flight, your job is to be polite and professional, that's what you're paid for.

As long as they know the reason you did it and they got your point, it's fine.
If they don't know why then they just won't change their behaviour.
