I own a rental property and a foreigner (brit) wants to rent it out without seeing it. I found him on Craigs list and he says he's sending a cashiers check for the first month and security.

First, does this sound fishy?
Second, what company screens foreigners and what info do I need from them?

Thanks- much appreciated

green card or not you still want to check this person out. Check with credit reporting agencies to see if they can screen a foreigner for you. Most of the time they do. BUT do NOT rely on the goverment to do your "screening" for you.
The 9/11 terrorists had a green card, did they check out ok? don't think so.

I own a condo in northern Virginia that I have been renting out for a few years and I have an applicant to move in. Consumer reporting agencies and tenant screening companies can use an ITIN to find the information they need to effectively screen an applicant. Keep in mind ... tenant screening

Practice fair housing, create a resident criteria, finding a screening company- and screen all of your resident to meet your criteria. There are several companies that run several areas of background checks. Credit Retriever, Rentgrow, and Amrent are a few companies...search the net for more.

Just check if he's got a green card or not. That way the government has done your proper person checks for you.

I'd say if he is willing to just send you all that money, he is pretty legit.
