thats rubbish.

There are several places where you can get music, either legally, or illegally.

A list of some of the legal places is here: http://arts.guardian.co.uk/netmusic/page/0,13368,1127237,00.html

The music format is normally an mp3 file, or could be mp4, and these will play on any compatible software of hardware player. You dont have to buy apple tunes to play on apple software. Its an open market.

That is rubbish. You can download music from sites like limewire and bearshare. I also use cds to import songs to my itunes library and use those to put songs onto my ipod.

Yes you can. You can transfer songs from any CD's that you have or from a hard disk where you ( or your friends )have songs stored. Just transfer from there to your Ipod. You can also download songs from any good P2P file sharing site from other users.

ipod will play any mp3 file. you can get those using emule, ares, etc. however, that might be illegal in some countries.

also, you can (legally) rip your own cd collection using itunes, wmp, etc.

Sure! You can purchase (or borrow) cd's from friends and add them to your library. Or you can purchase them from other sites and add them to your library once downloaded to your computer.
