Yes, you would need the Provisional Licence before you take the theory test. I think the theory pass lasts for two years.

Yes you need your provisional licence to take your theory test. Although you might find it easier to learn the theory side if you start taking professional driving lessons now as the instructor will teach you as you go along as well as give you practice test sheets if you ask for them. You will have 2 years from the date of passing the theory test to take & pass your practical test.

You need your provisional driving licence before you take your theory test. Once you've passed your theory test you said you are going to take your actual driving lessons. There's nothing wrong with that at all. After they'd passed their theory test, I paid for both my sons to have a weeks driving course. I think it was about 10 hours of driving lessons after which they took their test. It was a brilliant way of doing it and got it over and done with in one hugely expensive swoop. Good Luck.

Yes - you have to give details of the license when booking the test. What do mean what is the point ? The point is that as soon as you pass the theory you can go out on the road as a learner - the theory is to make sure you have SOME road sense before going. x

You can pick up a copy of the manual and study. Study is one way to learn the theory. You have to have a provisional license or learners permit in order to take driving lessons or practice driving with an adult. Taking the theory test is part of obtaining such a permit.

I hate to sound big headed, but the theory test is quite easy. Most of it is common sense. The hazard perception thing was a joke when I took it, click when you see a hazard and then a massivge truck pulls out in front of you... its not rocket science.

Having just said all that I've realised it was about 4 or 5 years ago that I took mine so it could have all changed since then.

Yes, you need to have your provisional license, because you need to get some driving experience before you try to take your theory, otherwise you'll probably fail it anyway. Then you have up to two years to get your practical test.
