Alas, no, democracy is not the panacea of all ills as both Rep & Dem governments have always stated, it is actually a myth. Whilst your government is supposed to be secular, it is in fact run by Jews and Neocon Christians, with little tolerance of those of other faiths. Politically you can only vote for right wing governments (remember McCarthy and imprisonment for left wing beliefs). The media is controlled by a couple of elitists who hold politicians careers in their hands, the likes of Rupert Murdoch, which is tantamount to state controlled propaganda, except noone ever elected Murdoch.
Politicians need millions of dollars to pay Rupert for airtime, and this means wealthy backers, who are in business, so the politician will not do anything to damage that backers interests. As a result, your food is full of additives, & pesticides (many of which are illegal in Europe, but widespread in the US). Pollution spreads across your country, and the globe.
The rich get richer, the poor get poorer, and the latter turn to crime because they have nothing and are disenfranchised.
And, before the insults from ignorant Republicans start pouring in, the UK is little better, especially under our current supposed left wing government, who make Hitler seem moderate.

where the hell did you get that 25-45% number? some elitist liberal tricked you by using numbers again. Yes we are free; free enough to question statements like "the government controls 25-45% of the things we do..." I mean, where is the factual basis on that and how do you put a percentage on "our daily lives"? btw, i'll let you know when any "pollution" spills into my food! Christ, i bet the same hothead lib who spoon fed those numbers also told you about "pollution." Did this person even define the term "pollution" for you? I doubt it. I could go on but this question isn't worth it...

Freedom is a question for philosophy. It is aobut being able to feel as though you are free to do and say what you wish, but even without political laws, we as a people internally regulate our freedom due to moral restraints. Freedom is an idea, a want, but nothing is really free. But if we compare our government to that of others, we definietly have more liberties. But liberties are not freedoms.

We are mostly free.
Laws are meant to keep order.
Parents are allowed to decide what kind of schedule their children keep. For example, they can home school them.
Our military is volunteer only.
Violence is BECAUSE of too much freedom.
We are, however, a slave to money.
Murder shows that we're also a slave to evil.
Pollution shows that we're idiots and don't know how to take care of our Earth.
As for the government? They HAVE to control some things. But at least in the US of A, we choose our leaders!

Yes mostly we are. We are free to follow our weekly schedule, free to join the army to fight for our freedom, free to vote, etc. It doesn't mean we live in a perfect country, only the best one IMO.

No. Govt controls WAY too much. We have lost our civil liberties with Bush.
The only way for things to change is when Good men fight. Otherwise... evil prevails when good men do nothing.
