ive never heard anything so ridiculous in my life. what kinda sick message does that send out? the man was given so many chances and was given a kidney which could have and should have gone to someone far more worthy, wasted his life getting p*ssed and we make him out to be some kinda hero and put him on a five pound note!

Such a question shows nothing more than your complete ignorance about a football legend. He might have become an 'unreliable drunkard' in his later years, but when he was in his hey day, he was the best, and even Pele has acknowledged that.
I suggest you sit down and watch some videos of him playing, you might educate yourself to the genius of this man, in this country, it has remained unmatched.

He has more right to be there than you. So get used to it.
He was a pisshead yeah.. no argument there but the way he played the game is the reason some know it as the beautiful game.
As football is our national sport whether people like that or not he deserves some recognition for what he bought to the game which was sheer genius.
I'd be concerned if Beckham got on one though.. or Gazza.

Why are you so insulting to him,he was a great footballer and sadly had the disease of alcoholism which believe me is sheer hell,as I'm a recovering one! he deserved a second chance at life, and did you know that he had set up a trust fund for the research into alcoholism,no i thought not so go and pick on someone else,he is still a hero you silly little person go and find a life

QUOTE 'George was the first real super star- footballer! My goodness couldn`t he play football? The first time I saw him my jaw dropped open and stayed that way! These days words of praise have been `done to death` and have little impact when we hear them, so of George I`ll just say he played a beautiful game and he was a beautiful man, a fallible man. He was just magic'
Couldnt agree more with you, I live in NI and will hopefully get one of these fivers to keep.

I hate football but he was undoubtedly once brilliant at it. I hate pissheads too but George Best was by all accounts a really nice bloke and thats as good a reason as any I reckon.

If his son still loves his dad then he could not have been a bad father!
I think its a shame that he was so addicted that he could not save himself! I imagine he wanted to live desperately but his addiction was too strong!
A tragedy! So talented but so flawed and for that alone he is worth holding up to remind us all how short life can be!

You had to be there when he was playing football. The way he played has changed the whole game ever since.
