You can to your local City or County government offices. I.E. Building Department, Planning Department and check the public records for the building or buisness in question.

Public schools are owned by the school district in which the school resides. That's also how it will appear on the deed. There is no one, single owner of a public school.
If it's a private school, it's more than likely owned by a church or diocese.

Public school property is owned by the "school board" or the "board of education" in the district they serve.The states oversee all school board activity in each state so I would say the states own them.
