Cuban athlete Alberto Juantorena is the only runner in Olympic history to achieve a 400/800 double victory.
In the 800m final at the 1976 Olympic games, he led throughout most of the race and, surprisingly, scored a decisive victory. Three days later, he powered past Fred Newhouse in the last twenty metres of the 400m final and won his second gold medal.
He was also the first runner from a non-English-speaking country to win either event.

I don't have time to do the complete research for you but I did do a little.

Google: first man to win 400/800m double in same Olympics (or a variation of that)
and go to ask.com: search for the same thing or something close to.

You'll be able to figure it out. I saw a lot of good informing information.
