Use a pencil to draw out what you are going to carve before you actually carve it. They sell pumpkin carving sets at Walmart, grocery stores, Target...just about anywhere this time of year. But, if you don't want to spend the money, you can use a regular very sharp knive--the kind with treads, not the smooth kind. Be sure to hollow the pumpkin "goop" out completely beforehand, too. You can use a large spoon or your hands for this.

Go ahead and pop the $1.99 for a carving scoop and saw. It makes it so much easier than fooling around with a knife.
