I live in a pre-fab home and i am very satisifed with it . I purchased my home new in 1999. I had a few problems the first month or so, but the company always came out to solve the problem when i called them. My home is on a permanent foundation and has steel out side doors just like any home. I have double paned windows and a real fire place. My home has central air and a heat pump.My roof is under warrenty for 30 years. In my opinion my home looks just as good as any other home and the cost wasn't that bad either.

They sound like little birds...CHEEP, CHEEP, CHEEP.
They are built to the barest minimum of code requirements.
Materials used are cheap.
Trucking down the road cracks drywall and plumbing.
Poor insulation (but, when your roof is on hinges, what can you expect?)
Siding installed incorrectly.
Now, I'm basing this on an assumption that your question is about modular housing. Some custom homes are "panelized," meaning that the framing can be done in panels, and erected on the job site. Panelized construction is totally different and should not be confused with modular homes.
From what I have seen, modular homes will not age well, and thus, will not retain value in the way that true site-constructed homes will. Yes, Virginia, there is a difference.

My sister bought a pre-fab home and she loves it. I on the other hand had a stick built home and I have had more trouble with my home then any one I know. The pipes have burst , I have things sticking up through my floor . I wish I had gone pre-fab and saved myself the heartache and money.

I've had no experience with them, but I've heard they're built inside, under cover so the 2X4's or 2X6's and everything doesn't get wet if it rains during construction.
Check out their model homes. Bring along a square and a level if you want.
Ask what they do if you're not happy with the end product.

my friend at work just bought one and she says she doesn't like it. the door frames are crooked, some of the doors are super cheap, and there is just several things wrong. she needs to contact the people she bought it from. I just ask around to people with them and see what comes up.

sorry, no experience but i have heard that if you can walk into a home and tell that it was not stick-built the value will go down.
it doesn't have to be stick-built, just if you can tell it's not, it's going to be hard to re-sell

prefab homes are costing way too much for what you get anymore. when you go to sell one no one wants it. they are built cheap and are not meant to last very long. now if you want a temporary home go for it.
